Objective

To promote community involvement in the design of the development to ensure their needs, ideas and knowledge are taken into account to improve the quality and acceptability of the development

What methods have been used to actively engage local stakeholders in the development proposal

  1. public notices and adverts used so that stakeholders can comment to the Planning Authority
  2. a pre-prepared scheme (eg leaflets and return forms)
  3. have been asked to select their preferred option from a range of schemes and their preferred proposal has been put forward (eg through remote surveys or through a public meeting)
  4. have been involved in the preparation of this proposal (eg through workshops or participative processes)
  5. produced the guidelines for the development of this proposal (eg Village Design Statements, Place check, Charrettes)

Question 2.3

Objective

To encourage sustainable behaviour and help integration into the local community.

  3. Energy efficiency – including measure incorporated into the development and/or dwelling
  4. Local amenities
  5. Refuse collection
  6. Recycling facilities
  7. Local organisations and community groups
  8. Environmental technologies installed in the development and dwelling
  9. Water conservation tips

Question 2.4

Objective

To ensure that community facilities are maintained and community has sense of ownership.

Does the development have provision for occupiers to manage shared and site facilities eg open space, SUDS, grey water schemes, meeting places, allotments, etc.

Development sizes

The checklist has been split into three different versions for different sizes of development:

Small
Up to 10 dwellings
Medium
11 - 999 dwellings
Up to 999 dwellings (mixed use)
Large
1,000 - 5,999 dwellings
1,000 - 5,999 dwellings (mixed)

If the development is for more than 6,000 houses, we recommend a bespoke checklist should be produced by the developer and local authority.
